Netscape
|
A WWW Browser and the
name of a company. The Netscape
browser was originally based on the
Mosaic program developed at the National
Center for Supercomputing Applications
(NCSA).
Netscape has grown in
features rapidly and is widely recognized as the
best and most popular web browser. Netscape
corporation also produces web server
software.
Netscape provided major
improvements in speed and interface over other
browsers, and has also engendered debate by
creating new elements for the HTML language
used by Web pages -- but the Netscape
extensions to HTML are not universally
supported.
The main author of Netscape,
Mark Andreessen, was hired away from the
NCSA by Jim Clark, and they founded a
company called Mosaic Communications and soon
changed the name to Netscape Communications
Corporation.

Computer

Also commonly called NC --
A computer which doesn't have any drives (hard
drive, floppy, CD...) and doesn't contain any
software whatsoever which is connected to a
network, a server on this
network actually has the drives which
contain the software and data files for the whole
network, this allows a centralized way to
handle all software and data, backup and
maintenance of the whole system without ever having
to do it on every machine on the network, if
something goes wrong with any NC on the
network, all it takes is to re-initialize
it, turn it off and on if needed, and it is back
online immediately without having to "boot" any
operating system and software.
