Claris Home Page upload settings

Claris Home Page on the MacIntosh

The first thing to do before uploading your site is to verify all the links and make sure that all the pictures are in the right place, you should use SiteMill to check everything if you have it. SiteMill comes with PageMill on the Mac and the FTP uploader found in the Windows version is built-in SiteMill on the Mac. You should look up SiteMill on the Adobe web site, as it is available for free download and it's a very useful tool for site management. If all your links are correct , you are ready to upload your site. But before you do that, there's one more thing to check, if you built your site by dragging and dropping your pictures from other locations or your machine (folders, floppies, hard drives...), you must first make sure that all the pictures are in the right folder, the links may have looked fine, but the pictures may still be in their original locations on your hard drive, so hitting the "Consolidate" button will make sure of that by copying all the pictures in the "images" directory that you defined in your settings for the image policy. Once you are certain that everything is fine, the site is ready for upload, the following is a screen snap shot of the settings window for HomePage version 2.0:

Mac Claris HomePage Uploads

Input the server name as "orbhost.net", put your user name and "home" as the remote directory, if you already have a live connection to the Internet, all there is left to do is to hit the "Upload Site" button and it will do the rest by itself, otherwise, an attempt to make the connection will proceed.

The screen shots below are from HomePage version 3.0, the settings are basically the same, they are only put in separate windows:

HomePage V3.0 Upload Settings

The setting you need to look at in the screen shot above is the "Remote Folder", it's the folder located in your account on the server. To set it along with the other FTP settings, click on "Set FTP Options..." and fill them in as in the screen shot below shows (this is an example only).

The "User Name" is of course your own, not what you see below, and the password is not shown back as you type it, so make sure you pay attention to what you are typing.

**** IMPORTANT ****

DO NOT DELETE THE HOME FOLDER IN YOUR ACCOUNT ON THE SERVER, AS IT HAS SPECIAL PERMISSION SETTINGS WHICH YOU DON'T SEE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE RE-CREATED FOR PROPER OPERATION WHEN RE-CREATING THE HOME FOLDER.
