FTP Login information

If you are experienced, then all you really need are the settings for your FTP uploads. There are only 4 important settings:

1) The host / server address (orbhost's address):

orbhost.net for any standard FTP client or built-in FTP uploader in a web design program.

2) Your user ID (login account on orbhost):

If you don't know or remember what it is, mail the webmaster with your other infos and ask for it.

3) Your password:

If you haven't used your account yet, a temporary password was assigned to you when your account was created and it was given to you, if you don't remember this password, then a new one must replace it, as all passwords are encrypted and we do not keep any passwords written anywhere.

If you know your password, it is the third needed parameter to upload a site.

4) The remote (destination) folder/directory (on the orbhost server and in your account):

home

The home folder name is lowercase (unix is case sensitive) and this folder is where your site's contents belong, to be accessible on the web. Anything placed outside of that home folder will not be available to the web server for broadcasting to the web.

For the sites requiring CGI scripts (programs), your account needs to be enabled for this, the cgi-bin folder is where the scripts must reside, no scripts are allowed to be run from anywhere else but that cgi-bin folder. That folder is also located in the root folder of your account, at the same level/location as the home folder. There are preset permissions on the cgi-bin folder which assures proper access to the files if they are uploaded normally. The only needed changes to the permissions on files in the cgi-bin folder are for those requiring write access, this can be done easily with most FTP clients. If your FTP client doesn't handle changing permissions on files, then it needs to be done manually on the server at a shell prompt (using telnet) or just ask the system administrator to fix it for you.

The section above should be all you need if you have any experience with web design and have done site uploads before.

For the ones who wish to add a hit counter on their site, one is already installed system wide on the server, it is rather simple to setup and you can get some help here.
